FTP using FireFox
August 5, 2007
Have you been searching for some good FTP software for managing your file uploads? I have been trying several FTP software whether that may be for trial of free until I found this cool Add-On for FireFox browser called FireFTP.
“FireFTP is a free, secure, cross-platform FTP client for Mozilla Firefox which provides easy and intuitive access to FTP servers.
Along with transferring your files quickly and efficiently, FireFTP also includes more advanced features such as: directory comparison, syncing directories while navigating, SSL encryption, search/filtering, integrity checks, remote editing, drag & drop, file hashing, and much more!”
It’s a very small download of about 137KB
So with this add-on, now we do not need to install a new FTP software on our system. FireFTP works within Portable Firefox and gives you access to a lightweight FTP client using much of the built-in functionality of Firefox. It includes SSL/TLS support, file diffs, image thumbnails, resumes, proxy support and more.
You may not find much advanced features in this but better for the use of what a basic FTP application may perform. Simple and easy to setup and configure. However, will have to check if that would affect the FireFox browser performance while uploading huge files. More possibilities that the browser may crash.
I have tested this with uploading few files to my domain and also with this, I do not need to install a WinSCP application for a local network due to it’s ability to support SSL/TLS.
As I go through more of its features, will keep updated.
