Microsoft increases free email storage limit to 5GB

Date August 17, 2007

Microsoft has announced its plan to increase the free email storage limit of Windows Live Hotmail from 2GB to 5GB. Currently Google is providing 2.8 GB limit and recently Yahoo! and Rediff announced to provide unlimited storage space. Technically, this now positions itself on second after Yahoo! and Rediff competing ahead of Google.
However, paid users will get 10 GB storage limit for annual subscription of $14.99

Microsoft program manager Ellie Powers-Boyle has cited many changes including mail retention changes, support for Arabic and Hebrew languages, automatic replies when your on vacation, and flexibility to turn off the MSN news page. Moreover, free users do not get the power to forward mails from their Hotmail account to other accounts.

How would the increase in storage space by all the free webbased email service providers benefit the users?

How may would go for the paid versions? Unless they need the POP3 and SMTP access.

Though Microsoft increases it’s usage space, how would it impress and motivate Google, Yahoo!, and Rediff Mail users to switch?

What’s new other than just the increase in space?

Vasudev has tested the beta version and here’s the report.
