Blogs @ 10 on Sunday Times of India

Date August 14, 2007

This week, the Mumbai Edition of Sunday Times of India has published an article called Blogs [at]10 on the occasion of completing 10 years of blogging and focusing more on the Indian Blogosphere. It gives a feeling that here is an active involvement happening and each one is contributing and sharing their knowledge by providing all the kinds of information through their blogs.

A blog as defined in Wikipedia:

A blog (a portmanteau of web log) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketchblog, videos (vlog), music (MP3 blog), audio (podcasting) or sexual topics (Adult blog), and are part of a wider network of social media.

From mega-stars to common person; all are blogging may that be print media, business, technology, cuisines, travel, lifestyle, humor, sports, music, etc… there is every information available. To an extent there also are some blogs in regional language too.

There are 4 Blogs that are featured out of which I am a regular reader of 2.

1. Amit Agarwal’s Digital Inspiration

2. Arun’s trak.in

3. The Mad Momma

4. Aamir Khan’s LagaanDVD Blog

My reviews about the above blogs:

1. Digital Inspiration:

(Regular Reader)
Amit post’s in simple language, easily understandable. He has always been amazing with each of his posts, may it be…
I have never seen any better blog than Digital Inspiration that is still on the Blogger platform. He has made the best use of every tweaks and tricks that is implemented on Blogger which is not so easy.

2. Trak.in:

(Regular Reader)
Trak.in indeed deserves to be featured in The Times, London’s picks for best business blogs in India. Living in USA, Arun has been putting enough efforts to regularly update on Indian Business and being just 3 months old has really caught a lot of attention.

3. The Mad Momma:

(Never Visited)
I have never been a reader of this blog as it had not been of any concern to me. But here is what it says in the article.

Meet Madmomma, a Delhi-based mother of two who started her parenting blog a year ago. “Partly out of boredom,” she says. “I started writing on a blog because I thought these are the kind of thoughts no one would pay me for.” Now, she posts daily — on everything from potty training to playschools. “It’s amazing to see how complete strangers get involved, asking about my husband’s job hunt and my daughter’s skin problems,”

4. LagaanDVD Blog:

(Never Visited)
This is another site that I have not visited. Frankly speaking, I am a great fan of Aamir Khan but just checked this out after reading in the article.

Apart from the above, I have also been reading Amit Varma’s India Uncut. I must say this is indeed one of best blogs in India for every news update. May be TOI did not mention it because Amit also authors a weekly column for Mint, under Thinking it Through
Another best thing is when he says WTF.

Amit Agarwal has created a comprehensive list of popular blogs in India and here is an Indian Blog Directory.

Here is my pick of related articles worth reading on Trak.in are:

What is the Blogging scenario in India ?

Shortage of bloggers in India – Are Indians Blogging shy ?

Well, I have been blogging since 2005 and seen its evolvement since then. Today, it has been far much simpler for anyone to understand and with several blogging platforms available, you can easily get yourself started and go blogging. Welcome to the blogosphere.

Why should Mr. Bachhan feel sorry for commenting on Slum Dog Millionaire (SDM)? It is the film makers and Indian actors who have been a part of the film making, should feel sorry so that no one should ever dare to belittle India in the eyes of the world. SDM has damaged India’s image in the eyes of the world. My son in the US is asked by his US friends, “Is India really like this?” It takes tremendous efforts and enormous time to build image of a country but just a few lovers of white skin, to damage that. Tell me, which country does not have slums? Why can’t the producers make a movie in their own country which has dirtier slums and filthier people than in India? Their government machinery ensures that no foreigner ever comes near the slums. Each state in the US endeavors to eliminate poverty and slums but also ensures that the poverty is not disclosed to the public in movies like SDM. Whereas in our country, every one, including the foreigners take undue advantage of liberty. It was because of love for white skin that India lost its freedom to the British. Now it is for the same love we are exposing ourselves, magnified several times more than what we really are.

The movie also incorrectly highlights that Indian Police is corrupt, and anchors of KBC type shows are biased towards lower section of the society, which is not the reality.

The producer has gone way beyond to incorrectly convince audience that using “third degree methods” on innocent citizens is a common practice in India. The producer has highlighted that Police in Mumbai have no work but to torture poor people without any report from any one. There was no logic in showing that Police just wants to know how a poor boy was able to answer such difficult questions.

After watching SDM, every patriot Indian has his blood boiling with hate for those Indians who supported and acted in the movie.

There is nothing to rejoice if this film wins Oscars for the simple reason that this ANTI-INDIAN film is made produced by foreigners. The only Indian ingredients in these movies are the actors, hungry to work in a Hollywood movie.

At Oscar they treat Indians like unwanted dirt and can not accept to admit a movie where Indians are shown more powerful than white skinned folks. That was the reason why Satyajit Ray’s movies like “Pather Panchali” could enter the Oscar arena. He too showed Indians poor and down trodden, which the politicians at Oscar always liked to see. Otherwise, what was the reason for their rejecting “Lagaan” and other classic Indian films where Indians were shown rich and well to do?

Those who will rejoice on winning Oscar by SDM will be those who did rejoice in the heart of their hearts on 26 Nov 2008. Shame on makers, actors, promoters and supporters of SDM.

“Hats-off” Mr. Bachhan for you comments as a patriot. There is no need to succumb to pressures. Mr. Bachhan, please stick to your original opinion. All Indians who love their country, are with you.

    Regards
    V S Saxena.
